Album (Fare Thee Well)
November 3 - December 15, 2018

Galerie Trois Points is thrilled to present David Gillanders’ most recent work with Album (Fare Thee Well). Presented from November 3 to December 15, the exhibition features brilliant colored very intimate paintings more strongly anchored in representation than ever.
Fueled by memory, grief and joy, Gillanders’ new paintings unfold like a family album. Posed snapshots and casual interactions found in family photos, old and new, are rendered in hard edge sections of flat generous color. A visual language of joy portrays an imagery of loss and love.
David Gillanders’ methodically constructed paintings and drawings have in recent years employed a strategy of divided surfaces and an imagery based in everyday life to create artworks as metaphors for time, memory, work, and domesticity. The works in Album (Fare Thee Well) extend the strategy in compelling new ways.
David Gillanders studied at the University of Western Ontario in London and later at McGill University in Montreal, where he stayed for more than twenty years. Gillanders has exhibited his work in numerous exhibition centers and galleries including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal, Gallery McClure, Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay, and Galerie Port-Maurice, Montreal, as well as the John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto, and the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
