Shanghaied : Barking Dogs Boys Koi

Galerie Trois Points is thrilled to feature the newest production of the artist Evergon in an exhibition titled Shanghaied : Barking Dogs Boys Silent Koi. From October 8th to November 5th, the exhibition intertwines photographs, drawings and video works.
This brand new suite by Evergon originated during his trip to Shanghai in the context of the Universal Exposition in 2010 and more specifically, his visit to Zhouzhuang, “China’s Venice” forty-five minutes outside of Shanghai. The imagination of the artist was activated by the strange presence of two dogs, completely isolated on a small square island. Evergon was attracted to their solitude and isolation, like Chinese monks lost within their ink drawn mountains.
Shanghaied : Barking Dogs Boys Silent Koi explores the notion of identity through the animal figure of the dog and of the man. Memories of memories, the artist extends the interdisciplinary collage to the animalistic features that reside in the human; and on the other hand, the anthropomorphic qualities given to man’s best friend. With a particular rhythm, his videos, some of which were featured at Galerie Verticale 2009, constitute a reflection on the position of man/beast in the jungles urban. Moreover, they explore landscape voyeurism, with its endlessness of time.
Evergon reinterprets the history of art in a personal manner, evoking the grand classical genres. His work bans taboos and discomforts regarding masculine sexuality and suggests a reflection on poetic fashioning and documentary disguise. The work of Evergon encourages the viewer to second-guess and revel in preconceived identities and norms.
Evergon lives and works in Montreal Quebec. He’s been teaching for more than 35 years, the last dozen at Concordia University. Internationally renowned, he is considered one of the most prominent artists in the field of contemporary photography. Evergon has exhibited his works virtually all over the world.
