Galerie Trois Points is very pleased to present the most recent production of Olga Chagaoutdinova. This event coincides with the reopening of the gallery in a face-lifted space.

Russian born artist, Chagaoutdinova lives and works in Montréal since 2005 and is mostly known for her work in photography. While the Canadian Art Magazine included her in the ten top graduates across the country, she has impressed art critics as well as professionals and collectors with her very accurate sensibility.

STOM-ACHE is an exhibition that let’s us appreciate a brand new perspective on the artist’s practice. Indeed, two videos are shown in addition to the photographic work. If the previous series such as the Russian or Cuban interiors were part of her own search of identity, this new series of works goes even further in the realm of intimacy. For the first time, Chagaoutdinova steps to self-representation, giving to the viewer a glimpse of her vulnerability. Videos show her in disturbing scenes in which themes like tragedy, suffering and fatality are explored. The artist is looking for the pain that settles in the stomach, pain that might have been felt by older members of her family while living in a tormented Russia. She feels that she now carries the genetic print of that old pain. Chagaoutdinova is fully assuming the feminist aspect of her practice. As Ana Mendieta, for instance, she takes her place within the great heritage left by generations of feminist artists.

Chagaoutdinova has presented solo exhibitions at the Far East Museum of Fine Arts in Khabarovsk, Russia, in 2006 and 2008 as well as in Amsterdam in 2008 and will show this fall in Paris at the Nikki Diana Marquardt Gallery.
