John Boyle-Singfield

Artist Profile

John Boyle-Singfield is a Canadian born artist based in Montreal. His work primarily manifests a society in which the effects of technology and late capitalism have been absorbed into our body and altered our vision of the world. Within these transformations, complex systems of behavior arise. A depiction of this human entropy forms the basin of his practice, questioning relations of power, language and memory in a society where attention-economy is the driving force.

He is interested in banal forms and everyday objects, especially when they incarnate the new speed of identity-consumerism, and become art when they renounce their likeness to the living.

John Boyle-Singfield was born in 1987. He studied at l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Lyon and at L’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where he received his BFA. Boyle-Singfield’s work has been exhibited in Canada and United-States, including the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery in Toronto, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in Montreal, McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, Saw Gallery in Ottawa, Vu Photo in Quebec, Eastern Bloc in Montreal, Espace Virtuel in Chicoutimi, Inter le Lieu in Québec, Vaste et Vague in Carleton-sur-mer and at Galerie sans Nom in Moncton.

Boyle-Singfield lives and works in Montreal.
